History of the RAS
Going strong after more than half a century
The Riverside Astronomical Society has a history of civic and educational support since its beginnings in 1957. The RAS owes its start to people who saw the need to promote a better awareness of astronomy to the general public. They also saw a need for a common forum for amateur astronomers to further develop and advance their hobby. These goals are still the cornerstone of the RAS's mission.
Below is a series of articles written by Robert Stephens that capture the details of the Society's past. Please note that these pages are still using the layout of the old site. We're working to convert them to the new site design.
