Capella Telescope/GMARS Dedication
February 25, 2006

On Saturday, February 25 2006, the 22-Inch Capella Telescope dedication ceremony was held at GMARS.  A cleaning crew, led by Alex McConahay, gave Capella (and its primary mirror) a brand new shine.  The ceremony also marked the official permanent home of Capella, the "Dob House", located in the center of the public telescope field.

Several volunteers were required to move the telescope off the rocker box to prepare for washing the primary.

While many projects were in process at GMARS, Alex McConahay and Smoke Yokum dedicated their time and effort in building a permanent home for Capella.

The ceremonies also included Bob Stephens announcing that GMARS now has a site number (G79) assigned by the Minor Planet Center. The Minor Planet Center (MPC) operates at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
