Ok, that's enough of the basic stuff, now let's find out about you and your hobby. How did you find out about RAS? How long have you been involved in astronomy? What kind of equipment do you have? (include binoculars, telescopes, cameras, CCDs, etc.) At what level would you consider yourself in Astronomy?

The RAS is involved in several services for our members and community. For example, we have a public outreach program that visits schools, scout troops, and other organizations where we hold star parties for them. We are also developing a dark sky site for astronomical use located in Landers, CA. If you would be willing to help out in any way in the following areas, please indicate so. We sure could use the help!

Would you like to participate in any of the following special interest groups?
Beginner's Corner This is a class for beginners and we discuss all aspects of amateur astronomy. It is held on an "as-needed" basis. But, you're in luck. Currently, we have a regular beginner's session prior to our monthly General Meeting. You can also attend any meeting or star party to learn more about amateur astronomy and the RAS. If you'd like, we can also teach you how to use your telescope.
Telescope Making and Mirror Making Group We have members who can provide guidance in mirror making, building your own telescope, or making improvements to the telescope you already own. This group generally meets once a month.
Astro-Imaging Group Members who participate in astro-imaging with various types of cameras and telescopes meet monthly at Notre Dame High School in Riverside. If you want to learn how to image the sky, or improve your imaging techniques, this is the group for you.
Urban Astronomers This is a group where members participate in discussion and observation of lunar features, solar system objects, and some of the brighter deep sky objects (star clusters, double stars, etc.). Unlike any other celestial object, the details on the surface of the moon and most planets can be easily seen with a small telescope from the city. If you want to learn more about these types of observations, or improve your observing skills, this is the group for you. This group meets monthly at Notre Dame High School in Riverside.
