If you have any additional questions, you can call him or send him an email at outreach@rivastro.org *How much does it cost?* The service is free. This program is completely run by volunteers. However, we do accept contributions, but they are certainly not necessary. *What do you do when you come?* Generally, we may have a 30 or so minute talk about the sky, the solar system, and about what we will see during the observing session. After this we go out and look through the telescopes. What about inclement weather? If we arrive under cloudy skies, we could display our telescopes and give a brief talk. Be aware that it is much more enjoyable to look through a telescope than looking at a telescope. Hence, we would prefer re-scheduling the event. If we have rain with no indoor access, we would prefer you cancel and re-schedule to a later date. *How can you do this?* The RAS has aquired some grants for equipment that allows us to do this sort of thing. The presenters are all society volunteers. For daytime solar observing sessions, we need to make arrangements well ahead of time so that volunteers can obtain the time off from work. *When is the best time to hold a star party?* 3 to 10 days after a New Moon (NM). This way, the moon will be visible in the early evening, then after it sets, we can look at some other objects (double stars, star clusters, etc.). Optimally, 6-8 days after the NM is best. Our Calendar of Events page will indicate the dates for New Moon (grayed out days). Application for an Outreach Session If you are interested in having our RAS Outreach team come to your school or event and put on an evening star party or daytime solar viewing session, please fill out the form below. Our Outreach Director Alfred Fink will call you or email you as soon as he can. He will usually return your call at night, sometime after 7:00 P.M. but before 9:00 P.M., so please enter your evening phone number on the application. After you set a date, he will require a letter (on your organization's letterhead) confirming the date, which must include the driving directions to your site.
